CONSTRUCTION LAW: Corporation Info and Mechanic’s Lien Question…?

Is this information available publicLy and, if so, where do I go to get the info? I am in California.

As a sidenote, which you can ansewr if you know, I’ve got a mEchanic’s lien against my property and the lien is in the name of a construction company (listed under “firm”) and the “signature of claimant or authorized agent” is a gentlemen who signs his name and then writes “owner”, but, when we were trying to get a loan for this guy to build our house they ran his credit and denied him and so he came forward and said the business is in his wife’s name and she is the owner, not him. Can this be a loophole to make the lien null and void? Answer quick! I’m getting ready to go plunk down a lot of money to bond around this jerk. Maybe I won’t need to?

THANK YOU! Several of you have been really helpful with this matter so far in previous questions. I do have a lawyer, but you guys don’t cost $220/hour.
Yikes – sorry for the typos. If I had remembered that I can’t go back and edit them out I would have proofread better.
Shoot – I’m sorry. The original questin ws supposd tobe:
CAN I FOUND OUT WHOT HE OFFICERS ARE OF A CORPORATION WITHOUT CONTACTING THE COPROPORATION AND IF SO, WHERE DO I GO TO GET THAT INFO? I AM IN CALIFORNIA.
Aw geez, again with the typos. Maybe I should just start all over *sigh*.
Sorry again.
Actually, MLaw, the first answer absolutely helped – I wasn’t sure where to look. You’re right that the second answer was incorrect, at least for the state of California (I dont’ know about the rest). The lien IS interferring with a construction loan. My lawyer already advised me to bond around the lien. I was just trying to get a general answer so I don’t have to call the lawyer for every little thing. I’ve already learned enough from the first answer to know that there is no loophole I’m going to be able to use, as his corporate info looks like he changed something shortly after we fired him and he likely IS now listed as the owner of the company (he’s listed as the agent of service for process, anyway).

You can check online with the California Secretary of State website and choose the corporations tab and search under corporations name search. You should be able to find the president, address, name of agent for service of process through that website.

The only legal way to put a mechanic’s lien on your house is if your opposition has won a judgment in his favor….need more details

The reason they don’t cost $220 an hour is that one was irrelevant & the other plain wrong.

There’s generally no reason to bond off a lien unless you’re selling, refinancing, or doing something with the property that the lien will interfere with. As to whether the signature may vitiate the lien — that’s a question for your lawyer.
